Business Administration Thesis Topics for BBA, MBA and MS Students in Pakistan

Business Administration thesis topics for BBA, MBA and MS students in Pakistan

Choosing a thesis in business administration comes down to a few practical questions, and I want answers before I start reading papers.

  • Will my evidence come from a survey, company records, a public database or interviews, and can I reach it within one semester?
  • Can I name one sector, one place and one period, or is my idea still “banks in Pakistan”?
  • Does my supervisor know the method I want, whether that is Stata, R, Python or qualitative coding?
  • If my topic depends on a recent State Bank or SECP rule, is that rule still current?
  • Will I need a permission letter or ethics approval before I contact shopkeepers, customers or staff?

Business administration is a degree area rather than a single field, so one list cannot serve every student. Six areas follow: marketing, finance and banking, entrepreneurship and SMEs, operations and supply chain, business analytics, and international business. Strategy, leadership, organisational behaviour, HRM, change and project management sit in the management thesis topics collection, so they are not repeated here.

These business administration research topics each name a Pakistani setting and a realistic way to collect evidence. Several respond to recent State Bank, SECP or EU rule changes. Those carry a dated note so you can check the position before you commit.

Each topic shows a suggested level. BBA students can shrink any topic to one market, one shop cluster or one company. MS students should add a clear theory or comparison, and be ready to explain what their study adds.

How to Choose a Business Administration Thesis Topic

Strong business thesis topics share three features: one business problem, one setting and one evidence route you can actually reach.

Start from the evidence you can reach

Decide first whether your evidence will be downloadable data, published reports, a survey, interviews or company records. A brilliant question without reachable evidence only becomes a delay. So this choice comes before theory.

Name the sector, the place and the period

“Retail in Pakistan” cannot be finished. “Supplier credit among small retailers in one Karachi bazaar” can. Naming all three also tells your examiner exactly what your findings cover.

Check that the rule or dataset is current

Rules move quickly in banking, SME policy and trade. Before you build a study on a State Bank circular, an SECP notification or an EU scheme, read the official source. Then note the date you checked it.

Match the method to your supervisor

Your supervisor will judge your analysis, so pick a method they can guide. If you want Python text analysis and nobody in your department uses it, plan for that gap early.

Marketing and Consumer Behaviour Thesis Topics

Marketing topics work best when they study a decision that a real buyer or seller makes. Keep your sample close to the people making it.

1. Raast QR Acceptance Among Neighbourhood Grocery Shopkeepers in One Karachi District

What makes small shopkeepers accept or avoid Raast QR payments?

The State Bank’s Raast person-to-merchant service lets businesses receive payments through QR codes, aliases, IBANs and request to pay. A short survey or structured interviews can test acceptance factors such as usefulness, cost and customer demand. However, shops that already display a QR code are the adopters. Include non-adopters too, or the results will look more positive than the market really is.

Suits: BBA, MBA

2. Why Online Shoppers in Lahore Choose Cash on Delivery: Perceived Risk and Seller Trust

Which kinds of perceived risk push shoppers towards paying on delivery, and does a bad past experience change that?

Measure financial, product and delivery risk. Then compare shoppers who paid on delivery with those who paid in advance for their last order. Ask about a recent real order, not a hypothetical one, because stated preferences often differ from behaviour. Logistic regression fits this yes-or-no outcome.

Suits: MBA, MS

3. Loose Milk or Packaged Milk? Household Choices in One Karachi Neighbourhood

Why do households keep buying from a local milk seller (dodhi) when packaged milk is available?

Interviews or a survey can compare trust, price, taste, credit arrangements and convenience. The theory of planned behaviour gives a clear structure. Ask about specific recent purchases, since households may describe their choice more favourably than their real routine.

Suits: BBA, MBA

4. Perceived Pack-Size Reductions in Low-Priced Snacks: Household Responses in One Rawalpindi Area

Do shoppers notice smaller packs at the same shelf price, and does noticing change loyalty?

Assumed reductions may not have happened. So first record pack weights and prices for a few brands yourself over several weeks. Then interview or survey regular buyers. This shelf audit makes the topic evidence-based instead of opinion-based.

Suits: MBA

5. Code-Mixed Urdu and English Advertising Copy and Brand Attitude: A Three-Version Experiment

Does the language mix in an advertisement change brand attitude and purchase intention for an everyday product?

Show the same advertisement in Urdu, English and mixed versions to randomly assigned groups. Measure attitude and intention with validated scales. University students are convenient, but they do not represent all buyers. State that limit plainly and, if possible, add a second sample.

Suits: BBA, MS

6. How Women-Run Instagram Clothing Sellers in Lahore Build Buyer Trust When Payment and Returns Are Informal

Which practices, such as payment proof, delivery photos or return rules, reduce buyers’ doubts?

Twelve to fifteen interviews, coded thematically, give enough depth. Social media selling is widely studied, so your contribution lies in how sellers handle returns and payment. Recruit through public seller profiles and remove anything that could identify a shop.

Suits: MBA, MS

Finance and Banking Thesis Topics

Finance topics depend on data you can download or collect. Confirm that your series exist and cover your full period before you commit. The easydata.sbp.org.pk and the dps.psx.com.pk are the two natural starting points.

7. How Far Do Large Listed Companies Disclose Climate Risk Under IFRS S2? A Content Analysis

How much of what IFRS S2 requires do first-phase companies actually report, and which items do they skip?

SECP notified a phased adoption of IFRS S1 and S2 in December 2024. The first phase covers large listed companies for annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 July 2025. Build a disclosure checklist from the standard, then score annual reports for one sector such as cement. Check which companies have published reports for the first covered period. If few have, compare earlier voluntary disclosure instead.

Position correct as of September 2026; check SECP for the current status.

Suits: MS, MBA (finance or accounting)

8. What Explains Dividend Payout in PSX-Listed Cement Companies? A Firm-Level Panel Study

Do profitability, leverage, cash flow and capital spending explain payout decisions?

Collect data from annual reports over a fixed period. Then estimate a fixed-effects or dynamic panel model in Stata or EViews. The number of listed cement firms is fairly small, so use few explanatory variables and say so. Capacity expansion years distort payout, so control for them.

Suits: MS

9. Predicting Financial Distress in PSX-Listed Textile Composite Companies: Z-Score Versus Logistic Model

Which model separates distressed from healthy firms better, and how sensitive is the answer to your definition of distress?

Altman’s original coefficients came from US manufacturers, so test whether they suit Pakistani firms before using them. You may not find a ready list of distressed companies. Define distress clearly, for example negative equity or interest cover below one, and justify that choice.

Suits: MS

10. Herding in KSE-100 Stocks Across Up and Down Market Days

Does the dispersion of stock returns fall more than expected on extreme market days?

Use the cross-sectional absolute deviation method with daily prices from the PSX Data Portal. Pick the sub-period for a stated reason, such as a policy-rate change, instead of scanning for a window that gives a result. Short windows give fragile results, so test more than one.

Suits: MS, PhD

11. Risk-Adjusted Returns of Islamic and Conventional Equity Funds in Pakistan

Do Shariah-compliant equity funds earn different risk-adjusted returns from conventional ones over a stated period?

Use fund data published by the Mutual Funds Association of Pakistan (MUFAP). Compute Sharpe and Jensen measures against a chosen benchmark. Funds that closed or merged drop out of current lists, which biases results upward, so include them where records allow. Also confirm that the funds in each group are truly comparable.

Suits: MS

12. Barriers to Bank Finance Among Small Manufacturers in Gujranwala

Why do small manufacturers avoid or fail to obtain bank loans, and how do owners describe the process?

In July 2026 the State Bank revised its SME definition for regulatory purposes. Micro enterprises have annual sales up to Rs30 million. Small enterprises fall above that and up to Rs400 million, and medium enterprises above Rs400 million and up to Rs2 billion. Classify your sample on those bands and state which definition you used. Owner interviews plus a short survey work well.

Position correct as of September 2026; check the State Bank for the definition currently in force.

Suits: MBA, MS

13. Why Overseas Pakistanis Keep or Stop Using Roshan Digital Accounts

Which factors, such as trust in banks, exchange-rate expectations or ease of use, explain continued use of the account?

The State Bank launched the Roshan Digital Account in September 2020 so non-resident Pakistanis could open accounts remotely. A survey of Pakistanis in the UAE or the UK, shared through community groups, can test trust and perceived usefulness. Self-selection is the main weakness, because engaged users respond more often. Describe it in your limitations.

Suits: MBA, MS

Entrepreneurship and SME Research Topics

Entrepreneurship theses collect evidence from busy and cautious owners. Short, specific questions and a clear promise of anonymity improve access.

14. How Pakistani Freelance Developers Set Prices on Marketplaces Versus With Direct Clients

What rules of thumb do freelancers use to price work, and why do they change with the client channel?

Interview 12 to 20 freelancers and code their pricing logic. Ask how they decide, not how much they earn, because income questions reduce participation. Pricing theory and transaction-cost ideas give a base.

Suits: MBA

15. Supplier Credit and Stock Decisions of Small Retailers in One Karachi Bazaar

How do retailers use supplier credit (udhaar) to fund stock, and what do they do when suppliers tighten terms?

Combine structured interviews with 20 to 30 shopkeepers with a review of their notebooks for two or three chosen months, since few keep formal accounts. Ask about specific past episodes so answers stay concrete. Working-capital and trade-credit theory provide the frame.

Suits: BBA, MBA

16. Why Micro-Enterprises Stay Unregistered: Perceived Costs and Benefits of Formalisation

Which costs or fears keep very small businesses outside registration, and what would change owners’ minds?

Interview owners of businesses below the State Bank’s micro threshold to map both obstacles and benefits. The subject touches on tax, so guarantee anonymity and never record names. Ask about reasons and perceptions, not about anything a participant might see as an admission.

Suits: MS

17. How Pakistani Start-Up Founders Decide to Shut Down

What signals, such as runway, team exits or investor pressure, led founders to close, and what would they change?

Founders who have closed are hard to find, so use professional networks and start with one city. Eight to twelve interviews suit an MS thesis. Failure is a sensitive subject, so offer participants the chance to review their transcript.

Suits: MS

18. Licensing and Scaling Constraints of Home-Based Food Sellers in Lahore

What stops women who sell food from home from growing, and how do they experience food-authority licensing?

The Punjab Food Authority regulates food businesses in the province. Check its current licensing categories before you write your questions. Interviews with sellers, plus one interview with an inspection or licensing official if access allows, give a balanced picture.

Suits: MBA

Operations and Supply Chain Thesis Topics

Operations topics reward direct observation. A thesis that measures one process before and after a change is easier to defend than a survey of managers’ opinions.

19. Post-Harvest Losses in the Mango Chain From Sindh Orchards to Karachi’s Wholesale Market

At which stage of harvesting, packing, transport and wholesale do losses occur, and who bears them?

Map the chain through interviews with growers, commission agents (arhtis) and transporters. Then log damaged fruit for several consignments, which turns opinions into measurements. Traders may avoid sharing prices, so build the study around handling and processes.

Suits: MBA, MS

20. Waste Reduction on One Garment Stitching Line in Faisalabad: A Before-and-After Case

Do line balancing and simple standard work reduce cycle time and rework for one product?

Run a time study, redesign the line with the factory’s approval and measure again. Use takt time and defect counts as your main measures. One factory cannot represent the industry, so describe your case honestly and get written permission first.

Suits: MS

21. Outpatient Waiting Time at One Teaching Hospital: A Queueing Analysis

How long do patients wait at each step, and would one extra registration counter change it?

Record arrival and service times on several different days, fit distributions, and simulate the change in Excel or Python. Never record patient names or identifiers. Ethics approval and a hospital permission letter come first, so allow time for them. For clinical questions in the same departments, see the medical research topics.

Suits: MBA (health management), MS

22. Failed First Delivery Attempts in Karachi E-Commerce: Address Problems and Rider Scheduling

Why do first delivery attempts fail, and which fixes could a courier realistically apply?

Company data is the ideal source, but access is uncertain. Plan a fallback of interviews with riders and dispatchers. Classify failure reasons with a simple coding scheme, then check it with a second coder.

Suits: MBA

23. Weekly Demand Forecasting at One FMCG Distributor: Moving Average Versus Holt-Winters

Does a seasonal model beat a simple moving average for fast-moving items?

Ask one distributor for anonymised weekly sales of 20 to 30 items under a confidentiality agreement. Compare forecast errors on a hold-out period. Promotions and stock-outs distort demand, so adjust or flag those weeks.

Suits: MS

Business Analytics and Digital Business Research Topics

24. Roman Urdu Sentiment in Reviews of Digital Wallet Apps

Can a model classify Roman Urdu and English reviews accurately, and what do negative reviews complain about?

Collect public reviews within the app store’s terms. Have two coders label a sample so you can report their agreement. Spelling varies widely in Roman Urdu, so normalise it before modelling. Ask your supervisor whether ethics approval is needed for public text.

Suits: MS

25. Forecasting Monthly Food Inflation: Seasonal ARIMA Against a Machine-Learning Baseline

Does a simple machine-learning model add accuracy over seasonal ARIMA when forecasting food price changes?

Use monthly price indices published by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. Some are also available through EasyData. Test for structural breaks, because price behaviour is not stable across all years. Frame the question around a business decision, such as procurement planning for a food company, so the thesis does not read as economics.

Suits: MS

26. Customer Segmentation for One Bakery Chain Using Recency, Frequency and Monetary Value

Which customer groups emerge from purchase records, and how should offers differ between them?

Use anonymised loyalty or point-of-sale records from one chain, obtained with written permission. Apply RFM scoring and k-means clustering. Then test whether managers find the segments useful in a short interview round. Validity matters more than the number of clusters.

Suits: MBA, MS

27. Tone of Directors’ Reports and Next-Year Earnings in PSX-Listed Banks

Does a more optimistic tone in directors’ reports predict earnings changes the following year?

Score reports with a finance word list such as the Loughran-McDonald dictionary. Then relate tone to the next year’s change in earnings. That dictionary was built for US filings, so validate it on a sample of Pakistani reports before relying on it.

International Business Thesis Topics

28. Preparing for the New GSP+ Requirements: Compliance Practices in Faisalabad Home-Textile Exporters

How do exporters organise documentation, buyer audits and internal responsibility to keep preferential access to the EU?

The EU’s new GSP Regulation applies from 1 January 2027 and raises the number of required conventions from 27 to 32. Existing beneficiaries, including Pakistan, keep preferences through a transition ending in 2028, subject to compliance, but must apply again. Interview compliance and export managers in six to eight firms. Stay with business operations rather than political assessment.

Position correct as of September 2026; check the European Commission’s trade website for the current status.

Suits: MBA, MS

29. Export Destination Concentration in Sialkot Surgical Instruments

How concentrated are exports across destination countries, and what explains the pattern?

Calculate a concentration index such as Herfindahl-Hirschman from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics trade data by country for a stated period. Then interview four to six exporters about why they sell where they do. Confirm the commodity classification your data uses before you start.

Suits: MS

30. Entry Mode Choices of Pakistani Software Houses Selling to UAE Clients

Do firms choose a resident salesperson, a local partner or remote-only selling, and why?

Interview founders or business heads in six to ten firms. Transaction-cost and network views of internationalisation both apply. Compare the modes instead of only describing them, otherwise the study stays descriptive.

Suits: MS

31. Payment Terms Chosen by Small Pakistani Exporters With First-Time Overseas Buyers

How do exporters weigh the risk of non-payment against the risk of losing the order?

Interviews can compare open account, advance payment and letters of credit in real past deals. Ask about specific transactions, because general opinions hide what actually happened. Keep buyer names out of the write-up.

Suits: MBA

32. How UK-Based Pakistani-Heritage Shoppers Judge Pakistan-Made Packaged Foods

Do country-of-origin image, familiarity and price shape the purchase of Pakistan-made packaged foods sold in UK grocery shops?

An online survey shared through community groups can measure country-of-origin image and consumer ethnocentrism. It also suits students who are studying in the UK. Report how you reached respondents, because online sampling is not random.

Scaling a Topic to Your Level

BBA. Shrink the topic to one market, one shop cluster or one company. A small sample analysed clearly beats a large sample analysed badly.

MBA. Apply one framework properly to a named organisation or sector. Then finish with recommendations a manager could act on.

MS. State what your study adds: a new setting, a new comparison or a better measure. Be ready to defend each method choice.

PhD. Your thesis needs an original contribution, so topics 10 and 27 work only as starting points. For help planning chapters and methods around committee feedback, see PhD thesis planning support.
